This girl was/is truly extraordinary ... her pitch perfect tone, inflexion, vibrato, and especially her effortlessness, always reminded me of Streisand. I think she was that good. The "Two Davids" were more than deserving, but I think Carly was better (vocally).

Fifteen years later I still come back and listen to this. Now more than ever the lyrics are hitting different. I love this performance, gives chills and tears.

I miss her,,,, where is she now? Though she's not at the right moment because of Archuleta charm and strong character David cook,,,, but she's one of best female country singer in the Idol, even from the one who won idol in the next season (the female country singer, forgot the name)

Poor bugger. They've got him giving it his all, while they're playing a basic backing track at only half volume. More than that it's to an audience that doesn't know the song at all and the performance doesn't deliver the punch that it might have, had the show delivered a better quality of production. I thought David was a little flat in parts, but Simon was not correct. I think David sang this really very well. A shame you can see his heart crushing with Simon's critique though.

Simon was right. That was absolutely awful. I don't dislike the song but David didn't sound like he was into it in the least bit. Awful key too. Some songs belong in their written keys and this is one of them.

The band should cease changing the keys on some songs. Kristy was good.

There’s only one guy who can sing it and that Farnham I’ve seen renditions from celine dion regarded as one of the best singers on the planet and I’m saying Farnham beats her when it comes to that song and that’s saying something

I'm a big fan of John Farnham's original 1986 version, but this is absolutely cringe-worthy in parts. Thank goodness his album version is better, but still soulless.

You have my respect David, John farnham probably has one of the greatest power voices in the world and you get judged by a bunch of fools who can't sing at all and lack knowledge outside there own Country , John would've been thrilled seeing this. Got job.

Best rendition I've heard
